Visa requirements
Citizens of Belarus do not need a visa for a tourist trip to Abkhazia. Entry is via Russia, through the Psou checkpoint 10 km from Adler: the border can be crossed on foot or by car.
Georgia considers Abkhazia its territory. Under Georgian law, foreigners may enter Abkhazia only from the Georgian side, and entry via Russia is considered a violation punishable by law. After a trip to Abkhazia you may have problems entering Georgia.
Documents required for entry
- Passport of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus. An ID card is not valid for leaving Belarus or for entry;
- Documents for transit through Russia — the same as for a trip to Russia;
- Accommodation booking confirmation (tour voucher).
A child needs their own passport. If the child travels with one parent, the other parent's consent is not required. If travelling without parents, a notarised parental consent is needed.
Tourists take out compulsory accident insurance from Abkhazgosstrakh. The fee depends on the length of stay: up to 3 days — 30 RUB, up to 30 days — 250 RUB, up to 183 days — 750 RUB. It is paid at the place of accommodation. Children under 6 are included in a parent's policy.
Medical care in Abkhazia is paid — we recommend getting medical insurance.
Customs regulations
When leaving Russia for Abkhazia, cash exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 USD must be declared at Russian customs. The limit applies per person, including children.
Entering by car requires local car insurance, which is issued at the border.
Good to know:
Bank cards are not accepted everywhere — bring cash in Russian rubles.
