Patong Beach

Patong Beach is located on the west coast and is deservedly considered Phuket's most vibrant beach: it's just a 40-minute drive from the airport, yet it seems to never sleep. The nightlife is buzzing here, with shopping malls, Bangla Road with its clubs and bars, and the beach itself offers the full spectrum of water sports. The atmosphere is dynamic, noisy, and sometimes the water can be slightly less clear due to the large number of boats and tourists.

The beach is suitable for party lovers, active sports enthusiasts, and shoppers. The downsides are the crowds and sometimes insufficient cleanliness.

Karon Beach

Karon Beach is located south of Patong, about a 10–15 minute drive away, and attracts tourists with its wide strip of white sand. The place is calmer than Patong, but still has developed infrastructure: along the road you'll find restaurants, cafes, and bars, though not in the same quantity as in Patong.

It's a great place for families and those who appreciate space: the beach is long, you can find a relatively secluded spot and stroll along the promenade. During the low season, there can be high waves, so pay attention to the flags on the shore.

Kata Beach

Kata Beach is located south of Karon and is roughly divided into two sections: Kata Yai (Big Kata) and Kata Noi (Little Kata). It offers a stunning view of the bay, attracting lovers of swimming in calm seas and surfers—during the wave season (usually from May to October), you can meet beginner 'wave catchers' here. The area has many mid-range and high-end hotels, as well as a surf school.

The beach is perfect for romantic getaways and family vacations. The only downside is that it can get quite crowded during peak season.

Kata Noi Beach

This beach is located south of Kata Beach and is famous for its secluded atmosphere and incredibly clean sand. Expensive hotels and villas line the shore, with only a few cafes as budget options.

An ideal place for couples and anyone seeking tranquility and beautiful views. The downside is that the choice of accommodation and food here is quite limited, and prices are above average.

Surin Beach

Surin Beach lies about 15–20 minutes' drive north of Patong and is famous for its picturesque nature and crystal-clear water. Once a lively coastal area, local authorities have removed some establishments from the beach, so the atmosphere is now calmer and more 'respectable'. Boutique hotels and villas are located nearby.

The beach is suitable for those who value quiet, beautiful scenery, and quality service, but if you want nightlife, you'll have to go to Patong.

Bang Tao Beach

One of the longest beaches on the island, Bang Tao, is located north of Surin. It is home to the famous Laguna Phuket complex with luxury hotels, golf courses, and spa centers. At the same time, the beach itself is very spacious and calm: even in high season, it doesn't feel overcrowded.

Ideal for families, people seeking quality service, and golf enthusiasts. However, it's worth considering that prices at the resorts here are high, and there are almost no budget beach bungalows.

Kamala Beach

Kamala Beach is a quiet bay between Patong and Surin, just a 10-minute drive from Patong. The water here is often calm with a gentle slope, which is very convenient for families with children. Infrastructure is present: there are several restaurants and cafes, but overall the atmosphere is noticeably quieter than in Patong.

During high season, the number of vacationers increases, but there is still no massive crowd like at popular resorts.

Mai Khao Beach

Mai Khao is the northernmost beach in Phuket, just a few minutes' drive from the airport. Its feature is its huge length and almost complete absence of tourist crowds. Part of the beach is within Sirinat National Park, so development here is minimal. Many come here for spectacular photos of planes landing almost right over the water's edge. In terms of infrastructure, there are several large chain hotels and a few cafes.

An excellent choice for those who want to be alone with nature, but you'll have to accept that there aren't many entertainment options nearby.

Haad Laem Sing Beach

Considered a secret beach, although regulars of Phuket have known about it for a long time. Haad Laem Sing is located between Surin and Kamala; you can get there either on foot via a trail (quite steep in some places) or by boat. The beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and retains an atmosphere of seclusion. Infrastructure is limited to literally a couple of cafes and sun loungers.

The place is perfect for lovers of romantic getaways and nature, but don't expect public transport here.

Ao Yon Beach

In the southeast of Phuket, not far from Cape Panwa, lies Ao Yon Beach — a quiet bay where there are usually no big waves. In my experience, even in high season, the atmosphere here remains calm and serene: a couple of small cafes, several cozy hotels, and a yacht club nearby.

Ao Yon Beach is suitable for those who prefer privacy away from the noise of the central beaches, but getting here requires a taxi or rented car, which is not always convenient.

Banana Beach

Banana Beach is hidden in the northwest of Phuket, between Bang Tao and Nai Thon beaches, and it's not so easy to find: the entrance is hidden in the greenery, and the descent is quite steep. But the reward is emerald water and a tropical setting that seem to transport you to a paradise lagoon. There are only a couple of small cafes here, few sun loungers, but you can enjoy snorkeling when the sea is calm.

The downsides are limited service and difficult access.

Tri Trang Beach

Tri Trang Beach is located literally just a few minutes from Patong, but the atmosphere here is completely different — it's calm, without the endless noise and crowds. The beach has a small rocky area, so it's better to watch your step before entering the water, but the water is usually very clean. There are a couple of cafes and hotels, which is enough for a quiet getaway.

It's suitable for those who want to be within walking distance of the bustling Patong Beach, but still have their own 'quiet hideaway'. The downside is that the beach area is small, so during high tide, there's little space left on the sand.

Freedom Beach

Freedom Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Phuket. It's located near Patong, but is mainly accessible by water (by boat from Patong) or via a steep forest trail. It features white sand, crystal-clear sea, and few people — precisely because of the difficult access. Infrastructure is minimal: a couple of sunbeds, a small cafe.

The perfect place for those seeking seclusion and beauty, but who are willing to tackle the path with steep steps.

Yanui Beach

In the very south of Phuket, next to Nai Harn beach, lies the miniature Yanui Beach — a cozy bay that's easy to miss if you're driving by. The beach is small but very charming: the water is calm, there's an opportunity for snorkeling, and kayaks are available for rent nearby to paddle around the picturesque cliffs.

Suitable for families, couples, and anyone who loves a quiet beach setting. The downside is that during high season it can get crowded because the beach is tiny.

Rawai Beach

Rawai Beach in southeastern Phuket is more of a fishing pier than a place for beach relaxation. Swimming here isn't very convenient due to the shallows and constantly changing tides, but you can see colorful 'longtail' boats — traditional Thai boats, try the freshest seafood in local restaurants, or head from the pier to neighboring islands.

A good choice for gastronomic excursions and experiencing authentic atmosphere, but not for classic 'beach' relaxation.

Nai Harn Beach

In the southern part of Phuket, next to a small lake and a temple, lies Nai Harn Beach — one of the most picturesque bays. Locals and expats love this beach for its clean water, white sand, and abundance of greenery. Cafes, restaurants, sunbed rentals — it's all here, yet with less noise than at major resorts.

Suitable for a quiet family getaway, romantic outings, and photos against sunsets. The downside is that it can get very busy during high season.

Nai Yang Beach

Located near the airport, Nai Yang Beach is part of Sirinat National Park. It's quiet, the water is calm in season, and pine trees grow along the shore, providing pleasant shade. Infrastructure is also available: several restaurants and cafes, but nightlife is practically non-existent.

The beach is an excellent choice for a relaxed getaway, including with children. The noise of planes can sometimes be heard here, but for many tourists, this only adds 'spice' in the form of unusual photos.

Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach is located not far from Patong: you can reach it by boat or by road through the hills. This small, secluded bay attracts those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle during the day, while vibrant beach parties are often held here in the evenings. The beach features a bar, restaurant, and sun loungers, though entry may be charged.

This is a spot for those who love to combine beautiful nature with the opportunity to party. During the high season, it can get quite crowded, despite the beach not being the most spacious.
