How to get to Dubai Marina

You can reach Dubai Marina in several ways. Below, we will look at each of them so you can choose the most convenient option.

Metro

  • Use the Red Line of the Dubai Metro and get off at the Dubai Marina or DMCC station. The average fare (within a few zones) ranges from 5 to 10 dirhams.
  • Travel time from central Dubai (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station) to the Marina district takes about 20–25 minutes.
  • If you plan to travel actively around the city, purchase a 7-day pass — this will help you save money and avoid wasting time buying tickets.

Tram

  • The Dubai Tram connects the Marina with the metro station, JBR, and Al Sufouh districts.
  • The fare is usually fixed (around 3–5 dirhams), but may vary depending on your NOL card.
  • The tram is especially convenient if you need to get from Marina Mall to the JBR beaches or the cable car leading to Bluewaters Island.

Taxi

  • A ride from Dubai Airport (DXB) can cost approximately 80–120 dirhams (prices change depending on traffic and time of day).
  • Travel time is about 30–40 minutes with moderate traffic.
  • Taxis in Dubai are equipped with meters, and drivers usually understand basic English.

Car rental

  • Pros: freedom of movement, the ability to visit neighboring emirates and distant attractions (e.g., desert safaris).
  • Cons: fairly heavy traffic, you'll need to get used to interchanges and pay for parking.
  • Average rental cost — from 100 dirhams per day for economy class (excluding insurance).

Although the district is perfectly adapted for cars, some attractions are much more pleasant to explore on foot — this especially applies to walking along the promenade. However, during the summer months, temperatures can rise above +40 °C, so it's better to plan walking routes early in the morning or in the evening.

Main attractions

Dubai Marina is famous for its yacht clubs and high-rise buildings, but there are other vibrant places here that are definitely worth seeing. We'll divide them into several sub-points for easier navigation.

Walk along Dubai Marina Walk

When I first came to Dubai Marina, I was immediately captivated by the atmosphere of the district: the azure water surface, white yachts, and luxurious skyscrapers reflected in the canal. Dubai Marina Walk is about 7 kilometers of promenade with numerous cafes, restaurants, and shops. You can stroll here at any time of day, but everything looks most impressive in the evening when the building lights come on.

  • Photogenic spots: take pictures on the bridges, where you get a view of the canal and skyscrapers.
  • Best time for a walk: I recommend morning hours (7:00–9:00) or sunset (17:00–19:00), when the sun isn't too hot and the colors are especially picturesque.
  • Infrastructure: there are many benches for resting along the promenade, pastry shops are open, and there are 'take-away coffee' zones.

Marina Mall

Marina Mall is a large shopping center that is a great option if you want to escape the scorching sun or go shopping. Inside, there are many brand-name stores, as well as fast-food restaurants and cafes overlooking the yachts.

  • Entertainment zones: a small cinema, children's play areas, arcade games.
  • Parking: an extensive parking lot, free for the first few hours (terms may change).
  • Wi-Fi: typically free (look for the Marina Mall network).

Marina Mall often serves as a starting point before heading out for a walk along the corniche or going to the JBR beaches.

The Beach at JBR

Near Dubai Marina is The Beach at JBR — a popular spot with an open-air promenade where you can combine beach relaxation with shopping, visiting cafes, and entertainment events.

  • Beach area: clean sand, paid and free sections, sun loungers and umbrellas available for rent.
  • Shops and cafes: boutiques of international brands, restaurants serving Asian, Arabic, and European cuisine.
  • Seasonal shows: during the peak tourist season (October to April), street performances and themed festivals are often held here.

If you plan to spend a whole day by the sea, The Beach at JBR is the perfect choice. The beach here is considered one of the most popular in the city, and the infrastructure is fully geared towards guests.

Ain Dubai on Bluewaters Island

The world's tallest observation wheel, Ain Dubai, towers over Bluewaters Island, which can be reached from Dubai Marina via a pedestrian bridge or by taxi/tram. From a height of over 250 meters, panoramic views of the city and the Persian Gulf unfold.

  • How to buy tickets: on the official website (recommended in advance, especially during peak season) or at the ticket counters by the entrance.
  • Cost: starts from approximately 130 dirhams for a basic adult ticket (prices are subject to change).
  • Opening hours: usually from 10:00 to 21:00 or later — check official channels for updates.

During the ascent in the capsule, you can see all the key locations of Dubai: the famous Burj Al Arab, the skyscrapers in the Downtown area, and Palm Jumeirah island.

Best Beaches and Water Activities

Beach relaxation is an integral part of the Dubai Marina overview. The area is famous for its sandy shorelines and a wide range of water activities.

Here's what you shouldn't miss:

Main beaches

  • JBR Beach — the most popular and crowded, with developed infrastructure, cafes, showers, and children's playgrounds.
  • Marina Beach — adjacent to the Dubai Marina Walk itself, slightly more intimate but also in demand.
  • Hidden Beach — a small 'secret' spot near JBR, sometimes with slightly fewer tourists.

Water activities

  • Jet skis
  • Water skiing
  • Diving (there are local schools for beginners, but keep in mind there are no coral reefs close to the Marina, so trips to islands or neighboring bays are often organized)
  • SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) — a popular morning activity when the water surface is particularly calm.

Yacht and boat rentals

  • Approximate price for a 2-3 hour cruise — from 700 to 1500 dirhams depending on the yacht class and season.
  • You can book both online and at numerous agencies along the promenade.
  • If you want to organize a corporate event or a romantic party, a yacht is one of the most spectacular ways to celebrate.

Safety and seasonality:

  • The most comfortable time for swimming is from October to April, when the air temperature stays around +25–30 °C, and the water warms up to +22–26 °C.
  • In summer, the UAE is very hot (+40 °C and above), so be prepared for quick overheating and drink plenty of water.
  • General rules apply on public beaches: alcohol consumption is prohibited, swimming in unauthorized areas is not allowed. Lifeguards are present on beaches from 7:00 AM until sunset.

Hotels in Dubai Marina

The choice of accommodation in the Marina area is huge — from luxurious five-star hotels to apartment complexes, perfectly suited for budget trips or extended stays.

Prices are approximate, shown for 2 people for a week with breakfast. They include airfare and accommodation.

InterContinental Dubai Marina 5* — from $3100.

The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai 5* — from $6964.

Crowne Plaza Dubai Marina 5* — from $2717.

Grosvenor House 5* — from $4322.

Important things to consider:

  • Proximity to the metro (Dubai Marina or DMCC stations) can significantly ease getting around the city.
  • Having a rooftop pool or an outdoor pool becomes almost a mandatory criterion when choosing a hotel in Dubai's hot climate.
  • During high season (New Year holidays, exhibitions, and conferences) prices can increase by 1.5–2 times.

Restaurants and Cafes

Dubai Marina is a true paradise for foodies. Cuisines from all over the world are represented here: Arabic, European, Asian, Latin American, and even fusion concepts combining several traditions.

  • Arabic cuisine: try mezze, lamb shish kebab, fresh grilled seafood.
  • European cuisine: Italian pizzerias, French patisseries, English pubs.
  • Asian cuisine: Thai and Japanese restaurants serving quality sushi and pad thai noodles.

Top 5 restaurants with yacht views

  1. Pier 7 — a whole complex of seven restaurants on different floors (sushi bar, Lebanese cuisine, Mediterranean cuisine).
  2. Abd El Wahab — Lebanese cuisine, location overlooking the canal, excellent mezze and hot dishes.
  3. Asia Asia — Pan-Asian flavors, luxurious interiors, and panoramic windows overlooking the marinas.
  4. The Scene by Simon Rimmer — European gastronomy, signature dishes, sometimes hosts brunches with live music.
  5. Cargo — an industrial-style bar, specializing in Pan-Asian menu and cocktails, especially popular with young people.

Price range and life hacks:

  • Lunch at an average restaurant will cost around 100–150 dirhams per person.
  • Dinner at expensive establishments can cost from 200 dirhams and above.
  • Happy hours (usually 5:00 PM–8:00 PM) — the time when bars and some restaurants offer discounts on drinks and sometimes on food.

If you want to try something more authentic and affordable, check out the local cafes near the DMCC metro station. Portions are large there, and prices are 1.5–2 times lower than in restaurants on the promenade itself.
