Visa requirements

Citizens of Belarus need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to travel to Sri Lanka. For Belarusian citizens it is free of charge. The ETA is obtained online before the trip on the official website eta.gov.lk.

The ETA allows a stay of up to 30 days with a double entry within that period. The stay can be extended at the Sri Lankan immigration department for a fee.

Apply only on the official website: third-party sites charge an intermediary fee.

Documents required for entry

• Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival;
• Approved ETA — on your phone or printed;
• Return ticket or onward ticket to a third country;
• Hotel booking confirmation (tour voucher);
• Funds for your stay;
• Arrival card: it can be completed online at eservices.immigration.gov.lk 3 days before the trip, or on paper on the plane or at the airport;
• Medical insurance — not required by the country's rules, but we recommend getting it.

Customs regulations

An adult traveller may bring duty-free:

• 2 bottles of wine and 1.5 litres of spirits;
• a small quantity of perfume and eau de toilette up to 0.25 litres;
• souvenirs worth up to 250 USD.

Foreign currency exceeding 15,000 USD must be declared on arrival.

To bring a drone you must obtain permits from the Ministry of Defence and the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka in advance.

It is forbidden to export without a special permit:

• antiques (items older than 50 years);
• rare books and palm-leaf manuscripts;
• animals, plants and products made from protected species.

Good to know:

We do not recommend using the services of "beach boys" who offer excursions, restaurants, Ayurvedic centres and souvenir shops on the beaches. Many of them are scammers, so it is best not to engage with them.

It is most convenient to buy rupees at bank branches at the airport. Keep the exchange receipt: with it you can change unspent rupees back into dollars or euros before departure. Banks are closed on weekends and public holidays.

Tuk-tuks are convenient for short distances. Agree on the price before the ride or use taxi apps.
