Visa requirements
A tourist visa to the Maldives is issued free of charge on arrival to citizens of all countries, including Belarus, for up to 30 days. The stay can be extended for another 60 days for a fee.
No earlier than 96 hours before your flight to the Maldives, every traveller, including children, completes the IMUGA Traveller Declaration at imuga.immigration.gov.mv. It is free of charge. The QR code you receive is shown at passport control. The internet at the airport is slow — complete the declaration in advance so as not to miss check-in for your flight.
Documents required for entry
- Machine-readable passport valid for at least 1 month from the date of entry. Airlines and transit countries may require a longer validity, so it is safer to have a passport valid for at least 6 months;
- Children need their own passport; a child travelling without parents needs a notarised consent to travel;
- Return ticket or onward ticket to a third country with a departure date within 30 days;
- Confirmed and paid hotel booking (tour voucher);
- IMUGA declaration QR code;
- Medical insurance.
Customs regulations
All luggage is inspected on arrival.
Tourists may bring up to 200 cigarettes. Tobacco above the allowance is held by customs until departure.
It is prohibited to import (in addition to commonly known items):
- alcohol, including duty-free purchases — it is confiscated at customs;
- pork and pork products;
- pornographic materials, religious materials offensive to Islam, and idols for worship;
- e-cigarettes and vaping devices.
Most resorts do not allow drones on their premises. To film with a drone, get the resort's permission in advance.
It is forbidden to take out of the country:
- coral (live or dead), black coral and tortoiseshell items, shells and other objects found in the sea.
Good to know:
E-cigarettes and vapes are banned in the Maldives: they may not be imported, kept or used. People born on or after 1 January 2007 are not allowed to buy or smoke tobacco — the rule also applies to tourists.
Hotels and resorts charge a Green Tax of 12 USD per person per night, guesthouses — 6 USD. Check with your manager whether it is included in the tour price.
Breaking, collecting and taking coral is prohibited. Do not touch shells or spearfish near the shore. Do not swim in the open sea or at night: the currents are strong.
Nudity and topless sunbathing are prohibited. In Malé, wear clothes that cover shoulders and knees.
Resorts usually have no pharmacies — bring the medicines you need.
Old series US dollar notes may not be accepted — bring new-design notes.
